Sir,

14

With reference to Mr. Jones' letter of the

22nd instant (62821/29) enclosing a copy of a letter

from the Mercantile Bank of India Limited, I am directed

by the Lords Commissioners of His Majesty's Treasury to

suggest that, if Mr. Secretary Amery sees no objection,

the Bank should be informed that the required under-

taking should be given by means of a letter addressed to

the Governor of Hong Kong to the effect that no amal-

gamation scheme (including the purchase of shares or any

joint working or profit sharing arrangement with another

banking institution) to which the Bank may be a party

will be carried out without the prior approval of the

competent Departments of His Majesty's Government in

Great Britain.

A copy of this correspondence has been sent to

the Board of Trade.

The Under Secretary of State,

Colonial office.

I am, Sir,

Your obedient Servant,

R. V. Neid It opens Люркия
